This book by John Bevere is an excellent book that truly convicts the soul of not living up to the Word of God about honoring all men. It is truly a life long concerted effort to be respectful to those who you disagree with, don't like, or are your sworn enemies who mean you harm. However, John Bevere clearly lays out the rewards associated with Honor in many examples that are real life situations faced by everyone at some point or many times in their life.
Don't be hesitant to purchase this book because of negative statements made in the official review. The reviewer uses the scripture Matthew 8:20 "the foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head". The reviewer has a natural(not spiritual)understanding of this scripture and, therefore incorrectly uses it against the excellent information contained in the book.
As a compliment to this book I recommend the 7 Honor System CDs or DVDs by Apostle Ron Carpenter ([...]). The CDs/DVDs can be purchased at the Redemption Bookstore. Apostle Ron Carpenter uses John Bevere's book as the foundation for his sermons/teachings on Honor. | | | | Eye opener! Apr 23, 2010 |
| I love John Bevere's books. They always challenge me. I like the fact that he never sugar coats his messages. They are firm...but what we need to grow in our relationship with the Father and with those around us. As always, I was challenged and I'm determined to make changes in my life. | While I agree with much of much of what John Bevere says, that we are to honor all people, as the Bible says... I don't believe God will give us watches if we do so as he described in one account. That is the heresy in the church today. The church is preaching if you tithe, you will be blessed. That is WRONG teaching. You give, BECAUSE you are blessed. YOU LOVE BECAUSE YOU ARE LOVED. "We love Him because He first loved us." Therefore, it stands to reason that we love one another, and honor one another, God's children, His creation, because He loves and honors them also. Hello? Why else would He give His only son for them? This does NOT mean we respect wrong teaching nor stand in silence when we know God's word is outrightly twisted and taught incorrectly. If we are disciples, and diligent students of God's Word taught by the Holy Spirit and know the truth, then we are called to "earnestly contend for the faith." We are NOT to sit silently by and do nothing and pray that God will do something. God works through His people. We are to correct those who are "going astray" in a spirit of gentleness at all costs. We can still correct, and still honor. We all go through hard things. I have had a great deal of difficult things to overcome in my life, and John Bevere's books have helped practically and spiritually where the rubber meets the road. They have helped me to keep my eyes on Jesus and not succumb to self-pity, unforgiveness or giving into the snare of offense. I have found his books to be alive, anointed by the Holy Spirit, practical and offered real help to the soul desirous of walking with Jesus in "spirit and truth."
For me and many others I know, they have been "wisdom from above"..."first pure, then peaceful, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy, and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace." (James 3:17-18) John Bevere is a peacemaker in the body of Christ. That does not in any way mean that he compromises scriptural principals in order to do so. I am so weary of those that call themselves Christians that want to criticize and pick at other Christians like self-exalting Pharisaical Vultures. Let's do everyone a favor and fight the true enemy of our souls and not each other.
I am excited about delving into the pages of this new work by Bevere. He and his wife Lisa are making a difference around the world. I am grateful for their integrity and their caring hearts to get their hands dirty helping "the least of these." They live with eternity's value in view. So should we all.
One witty British Bible teacher got it right when he said, "All of us are Pharisees in need of healing. Some of us need more healing than others."
All that are truly "in Christ Jesus" no matter which "brand" we are, are brothers and sisters in the same family. The day will come when we will not be so concerned about our theories, comparisons and bloviating about our "hermeneutics" and be much more concerned about doing the works of Jesus and watching one another's back. "The world will know they are My disciples by their love." It's about time we lived like it.
