Item Description...
Product Description "A glorious finish" (Midwest Book Review) to the acclaimed trilogy of the Gifted.
In The Begotten and The Betrayed, Lisa T. Bergren waged "a classic battle of good and evil" (Publishers Weekly). Now, the war culminates in the most provocative chapter yet in the blessed and powerful mission of the Gifted. Thirteen in number, each of them possesses a divine purpose as catalysts in a war between light and dark. Among them are Sir Gianni de Capezzana and Daria d'Angelo, who must face the church and avoid being burned as heretics. Trailed by the enemy, and on the run in an unpredictable land, they're offered tenuous sanctuary where they find love- and unknown danger.

 | Books by Lisa T. Bergren Feb 6, 2010 |
| This is book three of a trilogy. I have read just about all of Lisa's books and she never disappoints me. Great author whose stories most always have a "wheel in a wheel" flare. She does exhaustive period research that makes the books totally authentic to their time period. I highly recommend this book and the other two in the series. | | | | The Blessed Jan 22, 2010 |
Lisa T. Bergren's third installment in her Gifted trilogy, //The Blessed//, is sure to win accolades from avid readers of fourteenth-century-based fiction. She carves a captivating tale of love and hate, castles and knights, angels and demons, and cardinals and duchesses. The Gifted consist of one who has the power to heal, one with the gift of wisdom, one with the gift of faith, one with visions of the future, one who can discern good and evil, and one who can produce miraculous acts. This troop of good Christian people travel to the land of Avignon to have an audience with the Pope. They meet many allies along the way, healing, baptizing, and preaching to win the people of the villages over to the Lord. But, their journey is met with constant danger from their enemy, Abramo Amidei, who grows his army as well, plotting their demise for his one true master. Bergren's writing is true to the era, right down to the nuances of the day's slang. She keeps it comprehensible with a strong message of living a life trusting the Lord and dealing with evil, even by today's standards, all the while transporting her readers to an era with a vivid storyline and picturesque details.

This is the 3rd book in this series that follows an eclectic group of thirteen people--The Gifted. The Gifted are an odd mix of men, women and children, each possessing a special talent bestowed upon them by God to aid the group on its quest. They have been called to Avignon, the new home of the Church, and to the very place and people who may well destroy them all. Led by Daria (a healer), they make their way to fulfill an ancient prophecy--to rid the Church of corruption and to make God's message available to the common man--even as they are hunted by the purest darkness, intent on crushing not only the Gifted, but all things holy.
***** FOUR AND A HALF STARS! Somehow, the author has managed the incredible challenge of weaving a story that is rich in history, drama, spiritualism, romance, suspense and pure unadulterated Evil into a tapestry that is a thrill to experience! As they travel, they begin to gain supporters and believers, the elite that are needed to gain the Pope's ear and to stand with them during the ultimate showdown. Although exercising any of the gifts that these people are blessed with is no small thing, I was especially awed reading of Daria's healings--scenes so intense they left me with goose bumps! Conversely, I was equally creeped-out about reading of a very real Satan's successful manipulations and how easily even holy men were drawn into the web of deceit and depravity.
This is the first book of this series that I've read, and even with references to earlier occurrences, I didn't feel that I missed anything by not having read them first. This book is excellent and is able to stand all on its own! Given how intriguing the characters and message in this book are though, I can't wait to read the first two! The Blessed will leave you thinking back to these wonderful characters again and again. This is not your typical story of good vs. evil! Highly recommended! *****

| I have read the trilogy...and it left me wanting MORE!! Masterfully written-I felt I was on the journey...Although a novice in that era, I believe Mrs.Bergren captured the essence of the times | | | | The Blessed May 9, 2009 |
| I loved this book! It's a great "wrap-up" for the series but it's not any less intense than the other books. The story is such a great reminder that God can do anything! | | | Write your own review about Blessed (Gifted V3)
