 | Good News Bible May 12, 2008 |
| An inmate in the county jail requested a Bible to be sent before he was transfered to prison. This soft covered Bible was accepted as a proper mail item. He was very thankful it was delivered in a timely manner. | | | | Good Translation Jun 14, 2007 |
I first owned this easy-to-read translation years ago, but it got lost many moves ago. This is not a paraphrase, incidentally. I find this translation very helpful for difficult passages and am glad to add it to my collection of study and other Bible translations.
this site's description is inanaccurate, however. If you need the Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha, this version in burgundy does not contain it. There are two versions sold by this site -- one with a blue cover and one with a burgundy cover. Both are marked as containing the Apocrypha. I bought the one that cost a little more assuming that it did contain the apocrypha, but it did not. I don't know if the blue cover version does contain them, but since it is less expensive I doubt it. I brought the mislabeling to this site's attention so I hope they correct the problem.
With or without the Apocrypha, I highly recommend this as an addition to anyone's Bible library. | | | | Great Bible in plain English Apr 17, 2007 |
| If you're new to the Bible and/or thrown off by outdated language, this may be the version for you. Not once is the term "thou" or "begat" used, which is really great for those of us who are living in the 20th century. Getting this version of the Bible eliminates one of the biggest excuses for not reading it. It's in plain English, which is nice, because it's not as if the Bible hasn't been edited many times over the centuries. This edit keeps the content similar to that of other versions, such as the NIV, but makes it much easier to comprehend. The Good News Bible is the first version that I didn't put down in frustration. | | | | very satisfied Apr 6, 2007 |
| I found this bible easy to read and understand. I am very satisfied with it and like it much more than the King James version and recommend it highly. | | | | Good for beginners Nov 5, 2006 |
This is a good beginners bible, for those that are second language or young. It's hard to understand the old English versions, specially since almost no one speaks like that anymore in the United States. This has words that are used in today's language and their easy to understand. For Sunday Church School, I think this bible would be great for the younger ones as they would be able to understand the words a lot better.
I bought this bible because I all ready own an old English version one, and me been second language I found it hard to understand. Then I found this bible and began to read it and understood nearly everything. Although I knew it was not as accurate as the original Old English Version, I was able to read through it with out having to use a dictionary or give it too much though of what they meat, loosing my interest in further reading the bible. Now I actually enjoy reading the bible more than ever and mostly because it's easy to read.
I recommend this bible to those that are beginning or just want a clearer wording to talk it over with other people. I also highly recommend it for second language readers.
