A fine and highly recommended novel for younger preteen readers  Jun 10, 2009
The Boy who cried Wolf is a charming fable to everyone except the boy himself. "The Secret in the Forest" follows two young teenagers saddled with solving a grisly crime that they discovered in the forest. The police won't believe them due to their past, and out of fear of being harshly disciplined, they are silent to their parents. With no one to turn to, justice lies in their hands and they must find a way to deliver it. "The Secret in the Forest" is a fine and highly recommended novel for younger preteen readers.

A Real Page-Turner  Sep 18, 2008
Suspenseful and fast-paced, The Secret in the Forest
is a delightful mystery that will keep young readers
(age 10 and up) riveted to its pages. In the tradition
of the old Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys stories,
this tale of 2 boys' adventures and detective work
is difficult to put down, once begun.

The Secret in the Forest Beats Nancy Drew!  Sep 17, 2008
I was riveted to my chair reading this gem and you will be too! The Secret in the Forest is the first mystery I have been enticed to read in its entirety. Considering I am 67 and have the same name, Nancy Drew (a family name), as the Nancy Drew mystery series (which I couldnt get interested in as a child), I think that is significant. I could not put this delightful book down, so I read it in one evening sequestered on my sunporch with my feline companion. Reminiscent of my childhood, the forest and farm scenes were totally delightful, scarey, intriging and surprising! Loved milking the cow from a child's perspective and countless other scenes! I was very impressed at how the 2 boys cleverly and carefully uncovered the name of the murderer, all the while being forbidden to enter the forest, they did just that time and time again! I was seriously scared for the safety of the 2 boys toward the end when the identity of the murderer was revealed. In my mind this was really happening! I positively loved it, and you will too! Whether you are child, adult or senior!

Must-read mystery for ages 10 to adult  Sep 15, 2008
I highly recommend The Secret in the Forest for boys and girls age 10 and up. Adults will enjoy it too. It's like modern Hardy Boys or Encyclopedia Brown mystery. Think Encyclopdia Brown with a computer. It's a little scary but not too bad. Author Sheila Adam McIntyre paints an enchanting and realistic picture of a small town, forest and farm. Read it as a Halloween treat or at any time of the year.

Book Review  Sep 12, 2008
The Secret in the Forest is a fantastic middle grade book. It is similar to the old school Hardy Boys books that I read as a kid. As times have changed, writers have been allowed to put more edge into their scene desriptions. This book takes off right from the very beginning and never slows down. It keeps building and building all the way up to the exciting finish. The book does have some spooky desriptions, but they are not too scary. This book also has very strong character development. Readers will really get to know the protagonists and root for them as they solve the mystery.
